The APWA Wisconsin Chapter has joined forces with the Associated Recyclers of Wisconsin (AROW), the Wisconsin Badger Chapter of SWANA, and the Wisconsin Counties Solid Waste Management Association (WCSWMA) to advocate for Wisconsin’s proposed Battery Stewardship Bill (AB 713/SB 702).

On December 24, 2025, APWA WI sent an official Letter of Support to all members of the Wisconsin Legislature, emphasizing the importance of safe battery collection, recycling, and management statewide.

While strongly supporting the bill, APWA WI recommends three key enhancements:

  1. Include Alkaline Batteries as Covered Batteries – Simplify disposal for residents and businesses.
  2. Guarantee at Least One Collection Opportunity Per County Each Year – Ensure equitable access for rural communities.
  3. Provide Funding for State Administration – Enable effective program oversight and success.

APWA WI encourages all members to contact their legislators and advocate for these improvements to strengthen the legislation.

For questions or comments, please reach out to Rick Eilertson, APWA WI Chapter President, at rick.eilertson@gmail.com or visit wisconsin.apwa.org.

Together, we can make battery recycling safer, simpler, and more sustainable for Wisconsin communities.
