The Wisconsin Public Works Management Institute (PWMI) continues the leadership training offered in the Public Works Supervisory Academy by providing advanced management classes for managers and public works leaders.

The Institute is recognized and approved by the American Public Works Association (APWA) and offered by UW-Madison Continuing Studies in cooperation with UW-Madison Engineering Professional Development and Wisconsin Chapter-APWA.

Classes offered in the Public Works Management Institute are:

  • Advanced Communication Skills
  • Budgeting for Public Works
  • Labor and Employee Relations
  • Municipal Engineering Fundamentals (2-day program)
  • Fundamentals of Public Works Operations (2-day program)
  • Public Works Management Capstone

New Option to meet Certifiicate Requirements: Participants can now choose between the two-day “Municipal Engineering Fundamentals for Non-Engineers” and the two-day “Fundamentals of Public Works Organizations” to meet the requirements for the Public Works Management Institute.
All classes are offered each calendar year. You may register for any of these classes without applying for the Institute.
