Public works agencies of all sizes are finding new ways to use technology and data to improve operations. Whether an organization is just getting started or already well into modernization, knowing what to tackle, where to start, and how to make change work can be challenging. This live virtual program will take attendees through the modernization journey using the City of Racine, Wisconsin, as the primary case study. Attendees will see how Racine moved from disconnected processes and systems to a more connected approach to asset management, permitting, and service delivery, including what worked, what was challenging, and what changed as a result. Pro-West will bring lessons from working with other public works agencies, highlighting common challenges, successes, and considerations for communities of different sizes and at different stages of modernization.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify opportunities to use technology and data to improve processes and daily operations.
- Evaluate approaches to planning and implementing modernization efforts, including staff engagement and common challenges.
- Determine the next practical steps for technology modernization based on their organization’s needs, resources, and current capabilities.
